A fine small George III brass travelling clock by A fine small George III brass travelling clock by Chandler of London .
Striking on an underslung bell and with a verge escapement this is indeed a rare clock . Perfect for the Grand Tour and beetle resistant too.Some things never change.
George III Longcase clock made at the beginning of George III Longcase clock made at the beginning of the 18thC by the West Norfolk maker James Saddleton of Lynn. It is contained in a Mahogany case of exemplary colour and figuring on both the trunk door and base.  Height 84 inches, width 17 inches across the base and supporting a 12 inch break arch dial with a beautifully painted rustic scene in a vignette in the arch.
Not many clockmakers will draw out and fit a set o Not many clockmakers will draw out and fit a set of half dead beat pallets in the normal course of their work. This set made by 18 year old Rhys Davies as he completes his time with us is a very commendable effort.
Double faceted with a crisp locking corner demonstrate great control without machine lapping etc. Great skills to learn and not everyone masters them. What appears black on the inside of the pallets will be admired by clockmakers in the future.

The arch showing both Strike/Silent and Rise and Fall for remote regulation.
Additionally supplied with concentric calendar to the silvered dial centre inside a decorative matted ring.
All fitted inside a brass bound door with bone escutcheon.
As described in the video it has a form of Tic Tac escapement.
A very smart clock and beautifully made too.
