William Bassett of Mayfield, Sussex – Circa 1850

£3,250.00

This is a really lovely  example of Sussex clockmaking from the mid 18th century.

Clocks of this size are rare especially as it retains the original caddy top and a nicely pierced fret in excellent condition.

The 30 hour movement is of typical Sussex posted frame construction, striking the hours on a single large bell. The Oak case is warm chestnut colour enclosing the 10 inch brass dial which is engraved with birds and butterflies.

No doubt it was originally  made for a cottage in Mayfield and would be an absolutely charming addition to any home.
