A particularly handsome early 19th century George III mahogany-cased dial clock, of unusually attractive proportions and with a fine, well-figured mahogany case.
The 12 inch painted Roman dial is enclosed by a beautifully turned cast brass bezel, the finely divided outer minute track incorporating small lozenge half-hour markers. The light Roman numerals and elegant steel hands provide a particularly pleasing contrast against the pale dial ground. The dial retains its original character, with some minor hairline cracking consistent with age.
The case is veneered in richly figured flame mahogany, the circular dial aperture being flanked by shaped and boldly scrolled side cheeks, with the timber continuing below to form a substantial trunk. The case is finished with well-proportioned moulded borders and retains a particularly warm, deep reddish-brown colour and good patination.
The combination of the generously proportioned dial, substantial brass bezel and unusually handsome figured mahogany case makes this an especially decorative example of the type.
