Fine 19th Century Carriage Clock – 1880

A particularly fine late 19th century striking and repeating carriage clock, housed in an elegant gilded brass case of rare bamboo-form design. The case encloses a beautifully engine-turned guilloché and silvered mask framing an enamel dial with Arabic minute numerals and five-minute interval markers, all bordered by an ornate gilt surround.

The high-quality eight-day movement strikes the hours and half-hours on a gong and incorporates a repeat mechanism, activated by a button above the dial, allowing the last strike to be repeated at will. The movement is further fitted with a finely finished silvered platform escapement, reflecting the clock’s superior craftsmanship throughout.

An exceptionally well-made and decorative example of a desirable repeating carriage clock, notable for its unusual bamboo-style case and refined detailing.
