About Us – W.F. Bruce Antique Clocks & Barometers
W.F.Bruce Antique Clocks has been established for over thirty years. After completing a three-year BADA antique clock restoration course under tutor Frank Smith FBHI, Bill Bruce set up in business on the outskirts of Lewes in East Sussex. Larger premises were soon required and in 1986 we moved to the village of Herstmonceux, home of the Observatory, before returning to Lewes and finally settling in North Street in 2002. Interestingly, North Street has been home to other Lewes clockmakers dating back to the early 19th century.
Elected a member of the British Antique Dealers’ Association and a Fellow of the British Horological Institute, W.F.Bruce Antique Clocks are one of the most interesting and varied clock specialists in the UK. In two large, well-stocked showrooms there is a good representation of longcase (or grandfather) clocks from both East Sussex and West Sussex on display, as well as other fine examples from Lewes and around the country. All clocks are setup in your home and given a two year guarantee.
In addition we have a well-stocked library for research available to customers and students as well as excellent workshop facilities where sympathetic restoration of the stock is undertaken. Very often the same traditional hand skills are employed in the restoration of the clocks as those used by the clockmakers who made them, in many cases nearly 300 years ago.
Our showrooms are open Tuesday- Saturday 9am-4.00pm (or by appointment), where our complete range of clocks and barometers are on display. We look forward to welcoming you to Lewes and if you have any questions regarding restoration or are searching for a clock by a particular maker or area, please do not hesitate to call us.
If you are visiting the area please take a look at Best In Sussex, where you can see some other great places to visit while you are down.
