Nicholas Wilson, Kendal, late 18th century
- Price 21500
A fine, late 18th century, floorstanding, 8 day regulator by Nicholas Wilson of Kendal. The lyre shaped case which is of an outstanding colour and patination contains a beautifully made regulator movement with tall, shouldered plates united by four knopped pillars latched to the front plate.
The four wheel train is fitted with ten and twelve leaf pinions delivering power to a deadbeat escapement which impulses the pendulum through a Holmes style cranked impulse pin and into a well-fitted and finished brass topped wood rod pendulum.
Interestingly, the backboard retains the original depository number for High Harrogate, labelled ‘Lady S Smith for London’. Sir John Silvester Smith was created Baronet in 1784 and resided at the Newland Park Estate, Yorkshire.
